Why Forging?

Forging is a quintessential process in Trove if you want to make it to higher Adventure Worlds. The goal of this guide is to dissect how forging works, the things you need to get started, and the things you need to get the rare Radiant item quality.

Forging Basics

An item is split into qualities, and stars, which is how they will be referenced from here on in this guide. A Quality is something such as Common, Uncommon, or Rare, while stars is a one to five star system that shows the progression of an item in its Quality.

Shadow Level 2 Item Example

At the time of writing, the maximum level (counting gear + EXP level 20) is 42. This is pulled from having a full Radiant set, plus an SL4 Ring – each Radiant gives six Gear levels, and the SL4 Ring grants four Gear levels.

Types of Forges

There are three Forges that you’ll use to make your gear an 8-Pearl Radiant item. There is the Forge, the Enchanted Forge, and the Chaos Forge. The Forge is used for upgrading the actual item, the Enchanted Forge lowers level requirements (Twinkling Tome), adds Pearls (Pearl of Wisdom), and rerolls the Radiant Aura (Glim). The Chaos Forge uses Tentacles and Flux to roll the third and fourth stats on an item.

How to Use Forges

Forging an item simply makes it better. In the Forge, you will see there are slots from your equipment, so you do not need to unequip an item to Forge it. When you put it in the Forge, you will see there is a cost for Forging it. To forge an item to the next Quality, you need to forge it up to five stars in its current Quality. When you hit the threshold for the next Quality, it will require an increased amount of the material you used, except for Shadow Levels 2-5, in which you’ll require special materials.

Forge UI

If you decide to go down such a route, when you reach Resplendent (or rainbow as coined by the community), and hit the upgrade threshold for Resplendent into Shadow, instead of a larger Flux amount, you’ll be met with a requirement for a Perfect Prism. This is the only time these are used, and unless you have these laying around and need to get them out of your inventory, there’s no reason to go after these for your gear.

The reason I advise against upgrading Resplendents to Shadow 1, is because Shadow 1 and Shadow 2 drop at a fairly common rate in Uber worlds, with Shadow 3s being added to the drop tables for U6. This means that once youve hit level 10, you can theoretically spend absolutely no Flux getting started on your Shadow gear. Mind you, this is just starting. It’ll be a lot cheaper in the long run to avoid upgrades until you’re ready to start your Radiant gear.

When you’ve reached Shadow Level 1 (referred to from here on as SL1-SL5), you will require Eyes of Q’bthulu for each star in the forging. When you hit the level threshold for SL1, you will need a larger amount of Flux and Eyes. However, things start getting different here. You will still use Flux/Eyes to get to 5 stars in every SL, but when you hit the threshold, you will require Souls of the appropriate level. For example, in SL2, you will need Twice-Forged Souls. These Souls are acquired by deconstructing an item of that SL. So to get an SL2 to SL3, you will actually need three SL2s. Two to create the Twice-Forged Souls, and one to forge them into an SL3.

Upgrading Shadow Items is not Cheap

This is the process that will continue all the way up to SL5. At SL5/5 stars, you will require three Penta-Forged Souls. This means you’ll need to deconstruct three SL5 items to make a Radiant. In addition to this, you will need three Purifying Dragon Flame, which can be acquired through crafting in the Hub.

In total, to make an SL1 into a Radiant, you will need 243 SL1 items. This is excluding the Flux and Eye cost, which is equally steep. This is the best gear in the game, though, so the cost is worth the reward. On top of the reward of having all these wonderful stats, if your Radiant is a weapon, you also get special VFX to go on top of that, which will enhance your characters look even further, with lightning or flames, as well as other VFX.

Enchanted Forge

Expanding on the Enchanted Forge – the level requirement effect is one Tome subtracts one level. So it takes you nine Tomes to eliminate the item’s level requirement. Rolling the Radiant Aura can happen at any time, but you won’t notice any changes, since your item has to be Radiant to see it. Thankfully, this process is extremely cheap, only costing 75 Glim per re-roll of the Radiant Aura.

By lowering level you can use radiant items on your new classes

Pearls are an animal all on their own. It takes eight Pearls to max out an item. One Pearl gives the stat it is on a 10-15% stat boost (a 100 mdmg with 1 pearl will sit between 110 and 115), and two Pearls will give it a 30% stat boost. When you mouse over an item to see its stats, it can start off with some Pearls in it, being shown by the Pearl icon next to its respective stat.

Chaos Forge

The Chaos Forge is where you’ll go to fine tune your gear once you’ve got the broad strokes done. This Forge requires Tentacles and Flux to change the third and fourth stats on your item. This means that you’re stuck with #1 and 2, but other than that, you can change your item to perfectly suit your playstyle.
